Etsuko Tachihara is a secondary character from Ring 0: Birthday. She is portrayed by Kumiko Asō.
Biography[]
Etsuko is a member of the troupe who works on crafts and customs. She is Toyama's girlfriend. There isn't much of her, but it seems that she feels jealous when she sees that Toyama and Sadako are starting to have an affair, or at least trying to have one within the troupe. Later, Etsuko goes to find out more information about Sadako and when she finds her file, she realizes that Sadako doesn't have a representative photo. All of this was only possible and necessary when she saw a girl in a white dress, who was the second Sadako, however, Etsuko together with Toyama finds Sadako herself in the main white dress that Etsuko was still preparing.
The only big thing that increases in Tachihara is her jealousy when she sees Sadako's gazes with Toyama. She is still determined to show that she is a great girlfriend by delivering a coke to Toyama, after packing things under his cabin, but he doesn't seem to mind her act and she is disappointed.

After finding out more about Sadako, she begins to team up with Akiko, starting with a package that contains footage of the ESP demonstration, which Sadako is disturbed to hear. After several flashbacks in Sadako's head and her possible death, Etsuko witnesses that with Toyama that Sadako did not die. As the film goes on, Sadako and her second self kill everyone in the troupe, except Etsuko herself and Akiko who later isolate themselves in a cabin slowly watching Sadako make her strange and frightening movements. Etsuko dies, shot by Akiko as a way to escape Sadako.

Like some members of the troupe, Etsuko also dreams about the well and this is shown in the film as soon as she falls asleep.
